At Desert Bloom Healthcare we care about helping our patients get the results they desire in their overall health. One way we can assist you in this process is by recommending and encouraging the use of a health coach. Oftentimes, a health coach is the best resource to help you implement the nutritional and lifestyle changes needed to help restore your health.

After your provider goes over your test results with you, we can set you up with our health coach to talk about your needs as well as your concerns. Our coaching staff will help you overcome any fear or anxiety that may arise with the need to implement specific nutritional and lifestyle changes and support you step by step through the process. That is the beauty of having a coach on your side, they are there to cheer you on and help you get past the obstacles you are facing on your journey to optimal health.

What is a Health Coach?

A health coach is your personal health supporter, guide, and partner on your journey towards better health. They can provide accountability, encouragement, and unconditional support. A health coach helps you come to your own conclusions about what works and what doesn’t in reaching your goals.

They see what stage you are at and what action you are ready for and help you select and implement lifestyle changes to improve your health, taking into consideration your unique situation and environment that may affect those changes. They can help you get rid of bad habits and adopt newer, healthier ones.

A health coach can also help you get “unstuck” by helping you figure out what is holding you back from your health goals. During your follow up appointments, a health coach asks questions to get you thinking about how you can overcome challenges. Health coaches help people sort out where to start and make small changes that grow over time. The key is remembering this is a process and you can succeed!

In our office, our health coach addresses 8 key areas that affect wellness, with topics branching off into other categories. The eight key areas are:

  • Nutrition
  • Water
  • Hormonal Health
  • Sleep

  • Time Management
  • Self-Care

Because everyone is unique, action steps are carefully chosen by you with some guidance from a health coach.

What Should You Expect When Working With a Health Coach?

Each patient starts with an initial health coaching appointment that can take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. In that appointment, a detailed intake and assessment is performed to see where you currently stand in the 8 key areas listed above. The information gathered is used to help understand the intricacies of your day-to-day life, motivators, and potential setbacks that could affect the outcome of success. At the end of the first appointment, 1-3 manageable action steps are chosen together to create movement towards better health.

Follow up appointments are used to help create adjustments to previous action steps as well as provide accountability for the patient. As new habits are established, action steps may change to improve other areas that affect wellness.

We understand that change is often difficult and can sometimes feel downright impossible, especially when it comes to your health. It is important to remember that health is an intricate journey that requires forward momentum rather than perfection. Forward momentum… not perfection. Small steps forward will make a much bigger difference and get you further down the road than if you remain standing still.
